COD/ BOD Removal:
BiosS-Treat® Process: Fouling and scaling are responsible for the formation of layers on the reverse osmosis (RO)- membranes causing operational problems of blocking the pores with the result of increased operation costs for membrane cleaning and replacement.
The new technology, called BiosS-Treat®, is a technically and economically feasible alternative as it is not based on the strategy of killing the bacteria but elimination of the nutrients in order to starve-out the bacteria. This is done by means of a biologically operated filtration process followed by dosing of an enzymatic inhibitor. Chlorination and de-chlorination are not needed any more and lead to important savings in operation cost.
BiosS-Treat®- filtration requires a special designed filter with process- adopted backwash and a special filtration material for enabling the biological processes and the settling of the bacteria upon it. The bacteria find the best living conditions including food (=nutrients) inside the filter and remain there consuming the nutrients. Even if some bacteria pass through the filter, they cannot re- grow because there is no food-supply and the dosing of the bio- inhibitor causes bad living conditions. Reasons, why the bacteria prefer to stay inside the filter.
